What To Do In Canggu

6 months ago travel

Canggu was our first stop in our 3 week trip, less busy than Kuta and Seminyak. Known for its hipster cafes, surf and pool hotels.

We spent a total of 5 days discovering every single corner and we even didn't have enough time to see everything we wanted!

In this list you will find all the things you can do in Canggu and don't miss anything.

1. Relax watching sunset in the beach

Berawa y Batu Balong ( Old Man’s) They are the main yellow sand beaches, usually very crowded. You will find many bars right in front of it.

Echo Beach  is another beautiful beach with black sand, it is a little more hipster compared to the others with modern bars and surfers. It is usually not very busy so it is perfect to watch sunset.

The last one is  Munggu Beach. This beach is a farther than the others it would be the best option if you have a scoter and go there for a swim as you will be alone with locals. The water tends to be very calm here and you will see balinese people fishing during the day.

2. Pura Tanah Lot Temple

Pura Tanah Lot is the main temple of Bali. It is in the outskirts and you will need to rent a bike or a car to visit it. It is very popular among tourists as it's located in a cliff! Even then, locals still come to worship the Bali Sea gods.

3. Eat Healthy Food

Canggu was FOOD HEAVEN, we found so many delicious and beautiful cafes that even if we were here for a month we couldn't even try all of them.

If you are looking for yummy healthy options this is the place for your.

We ordered the vegan buddha bowl, cauliflower wings, gado gado rolls and the portobello burger.

Sister of Kynd Cafe, located between Canggu and Seminyak. It is a non profit and vegan cafe where they donate all the money to 3 organizations that you can choose after paying. If you come in the evening that will be less hot, you can sit outside at the rainbow wall!

The Loft is a veggie cafe with many vegan friendly options. It is a bit pricy compared to the others, but it's still cheap. The Açaí bowls are one of the best in Bali served with fruit and granola on top and a cute gold spoon. The avocado toast is good but it should be bigger for the price. The veggie breaky was my favorite, it was made with scramble tofu, different veggies, two sauces and bread. For dinner I tried the vegan carbonara made with jackfruit.

4. Join a Beach Clean Up

Beaches in Bali tend to be a bit dirty, why? Tourists. Lots of people come to the beaches and leave all the trash behind, it is very important to take care of the beaches and always bring your waste with you. There are lots of beach clean ups you can join and help keep it clean!

5. Visit a Market

There are a few markets you can visit and buy some souvenirs. There's a local organic market on Sundays near Echo Beach. You will local fruits and vegetables, music, baked treats, fresh juices, and organic coffees and chocolates.

Tip: Try the snake fruit, dorian and papaya with lime on it!

6. Go Shopping

Canggu is very popular for shopping, you will find many shops to buy summer dresses, bikinis and many things to decorate your house.

7. Surf

Canggu is a popular place among surfers.

Eccho beach is one of the favorite places, you can also relax on the sand watching them.

Be careful if you want to go swimming in this beach, as the ocean currents are quite strong here.

If you are a beginner or not enough experiences Batu Balong  or  Old man’s is the best option.

Tip: Check all the things you can do in Uluwatu, a paradise for surfers.

You can also book some classes or rent the board for an affordable price.

The price for a board is around 3 euros (50000 RP) for half a day.

8. Visit The Rice Fields

There are a few rice fields surrounded the little city that you can visit walking on your way to the beach.

The best way is to rent a scooter to visit every corner.

Where To Stay

There are two kinds of accommodations in Canggu, depending if you want to chill by the pool, enjoy happy hour and get tanned or relax in your villa, doing yoga and have more privacy.

We stayed two nights in this amazing hotel, it is in a perfect location, near all the shops and cafes and only a 10 min walk to the beach.

You can stay either in their hostel for around 15$ or in the hotel for 40$.

Tip: Try their smoothie bowls for breakfast. They cost around 3-4.50euros.

They had the best pool in Canggu and the happy hour was amazing! We spent our evenings chilling there with a coconut inside the water.

Tip:You can also enter to the pool or the cafe if you are not staying here to join the Happy Hour, highly recommend it!

Don't forget to check their Jacuzzi looking to the rice fields.

We stayed here for another 2 nights for a little bit more privacy and enjoy our vacation.

Kalapa is located 10 min ride from Canggu center and it is perfect to disconnect and be surrounded by nature. They have different private villas where you can stay and two different pools.

Tip: Join their Yoga daily classes.
